Prima dell’8 novembre (domenica), mandate i vostri abstract al call for papers La cultura popolare delle periferie: Memoria storica, lotte urbane e cambiamento sociale sui margini della città neoliberista. È una conferenza interdisciplinare che si svolgerà il 10 e 11 dicembre 2015 all’Università di Barcellona. I temi trattati saranno: Cultura centrale e culture periferiche; Il ‘valore patrimoniale’ e la penetrazione del turismo; La sottomissione elitaria della ‘cultura popolare’; I conflitti sociali come fonte di coesione.
Before november 8th (sunday) you can still send your papers to the call for The culture of the urban peripheries: Historical memory, urban struggles and social change on the fringes of the neoliberal city. It is an interdisciplinary conference that will be held on december 1oth and 11th, 2015 at the University of Barcelona. The panels will deal with the following issues: Central culture and peripheral cultures; Heritage and touristization; The elitary subjugation of ‘popular culture’; Social conflicts as a source of unity.
Abans del 8 de novembre (diumenge), envieu els vostes resums a la convocatòria La cultura popular de les perifèries: Memòria històrica, lluites urbanes i canvi social als marges de la ciutat neoliberal. És un col·loqui interdisciplinari que es celebrara el 10 i 11 de desembre 2015 a la Universitat de Barcelona. Les línees temàtiques: Cultura central i cultures perifèriques; El ‘valor patrimonial’ i la turistització; La submissió elitista de la ‘cultura popular’; Els conflictes socials com a font de cohesió.
A principis de setembre es va fer a Atenes el 25é congrès de l’INURA, International Network of Urban Research in Action (Xarxa internacional d’investigació i acció urbana), sobre “Polìtiques urbanes transformatives”.
A novembre, a Lubljana es farà el Conveni de la xarxa d’antropologia aplicada de l’EASA – European Association of Social Anthropologists (Associació europea d’antropòlegs socials), sota al títol prometedor “Perquè el món necessita antropòlegs – temes que cremen del nostre planeta calent”.
I per anar més lluny, a finals de Març a San Francisco a la trobada annual de la Associació Americana de Geògrafs, hi haurà un panel amb el títol “Narrar el desplaçament: experències viscudes d’exclusions urbanes socials i espacials”. La call for papers estarà oberta fins al 15 d’octubre.
En canvi, el 7 d’octubre és l’últim dia per a presentar les comunicacions a la taula “Lluites i revoltes contemporànees a les ciutats del Mediterrani” al congrès de l’IPSA – International Political Science Association – que es farà al juliol a Istanbul.
Així que, no hi ha excuses! A treballar i a presentar que tenim que canviar aquest vell paradigma acadèmic: i els temps són propicis.…
At the beginning of September in Athens there was the 25th congress of INURA, International Network of Urban Research in Action , about “Transformative urban politics”.
In Noviembre in Lubljana there will be the Congress of the Applied Anthropology Network of the EASA – European Association of Social Anthropologists, under the promising title of “Why the world needs anthropologists – burning issues of our hot planet”.
And to go even further, at the end of March in San Francisco there will be the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers, where a panel will be on “Narrating displacement: lived experiences of urban social and spatial exclusions”. The call for papers will finish on October 15th.
While October 7th is the deadline to present communications at the panel “Contemporary struggles and revolt in Mediterranean cities” at the IPSA congress (International Political Science Association) – to be hold in July in Istanbul.
So, no excuses! Let’s work and present papers as much as we can, since we have to change this old academic paradigm: and the times are favorable.…

A novembre, invece, a Lubljana ci sarà il Convegno della rete di antropologia applicata dell’EASA – European Association of Social Anthropologists, dal titolo promettente:”Perché il mondo ha bisogno di antropologi – temi scottanti del nostro caldo pianeta” (burning themes of our hot planet).
E per finire, ed andare oltre, a fine marzo a San Francisco ci sarà l’incontro annuale dell’Association of American Geographers, e un panel si chiamerà “Narrare il displacement: esperienze vissute di esclusioni urbane sociali e spaziali”. La call for papers sarà aperta fino al 15 ottobre.
E il 7 ottobre invece è l’ultimo giorno per presentare le comunicazioni al panel “Contemporary struggles and revolts in Mediterranean cities” al congreso dell’IPSA – International Political Science Association – che si terrà a luglio a Istanbul.
Insomma, non ci sono scuse! Tutti a lavorare e a presentare proposte, che dobbiamo cambiare questo vecchio paradigma accademico: e i tempi sono propizi.…

An international conference on Global capitalism and urban regeneration, as an homage to the great marxist geographer Neil Smith, that left us some years ago. Where do they hold it? At the MACBA, the Museum of contemporary art built in the Raval in the beginning of the 1990s. Like Columbia in Harlem, like La Sapienza in San Lorenzo, like the Centre Pompidou in Les Halles, and like many other cultural institution in neighborhoods “in regeneration”, the MACBA represented the beginning of the new urban colonization in the heart of Barcelona. As to say: when space says more than words, when the container quarrels with the contents. But at the same time, calling for the need to transcend the pain and remember the history at the same time. As Miquel Martí i Pol says: vam girar full temps ha, i alguns s’entesten / en llegir encara la mateixa plana (1980) [we turned the page some time ago, and there’s people who keep reading the same old page].
